The UW-Fox Valley men’s basketball team put together its best effort of the young season on Monday night in defeating UW-Marathon 72-58 in Wausau. Casey Kelder and Travis Puyleart led the Cyclones offensively with 16 points apiece. Juac Majok chipped in with 10 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Jordan Klein, Adam Kaminski, and Korey Jagiello each chipped in with timely baskets throughout the game.
The Cyclones defense forced the Huskies into 19 turnovers and drew 4 charges. It also held UW-Marathon to 3/13 shooting from three-point range. It was by far the best defensive effort of the season, and the best job of defensive rebounding for UW-Fox.
UW-Fox found themselves down early 8-4. Despite the slow start they led 31-27 at the half. In the second half the Cyclone offense got going. It quickly jumped out to a double digit lead that they would hold onto for most of the 2nd half. The Cyclones were 15/24 (62.5%) from the floor in the second half, and 45.5% overall for the game. Jordan Klein and Trevor Smith helped the three point attack by combining to go 3 for 5.
With the win the UW-Fox men run their overall record to 3-1, 1-0 in the WCC-East. They return to action on Wednesday when they host UW-Waukesha in a huge early season WCC-East match up. Game time is set for 7:30pm at the UW-Fox Fieldhouse.
