Cyclones Outlast UW-Waukesha

The UW-Fox men’s basketball team hung on to defeat UW-Waukesha 54-46 on Wednesday night at the UW-Fox Fieldhouse.  In a physical game that featured great defensive efforts from both teams, the Cyclones were able to come up with some key offensive rebounds late in the game to secure the victory.
Defense and rebounding were the story of the game for the Cyclones.  UW-Waukesha hit 12 of 18 three-point attempts last Thursday in a win at UW-Marathon.  Last night  was a different story for the Cougars as UW-Fox held the visitors to 3/17 (17.6%) shooting from deep, and 34.5% overall.  The Cyclones also out rebounded UW-Waukesha, with Korey Jagiello (New London) pulling down 11 and Travis Puyleart (Green Bay Preble) 7.  Jagiello also drew 3 charges bringing his season total to 11.

Casey Kelder (Appleton West) scored 15 points on 6/7 shooting to lead the UW-Fox offense.  Tanner Hackl (West De Pere) and Eli vonBrevern (Seymour) each finished with 9 points for UW-Fox.  Hackl had two key rebound baskets late in the second half that allowed the Cyclones to maintain a three possession lead, while vonBrevern hit a big 3 and two free-throws late in the second half as well.
The win leaves UW-Fox with a 4-1 overall record, 2-0 in the WCC-East.  The Cyclone men return to action next Monday when they travel to UW-Fond du Lac for a 7:30pm tip-off.
