UW-Fox Grinds Out Win

It wasn’t pretty, but the Cyclones trudged their way to a 63-51 home victory over UW-Sheboygan.  The win comes after the Cyclones suffered their second WCC-East loss of the season at Waukesha on Monday.  For the second game in a row UW-Fox struggled on offense shooting just 17% from three-point range.  Unlike Monday night the Cyclones were stingier defensively holding the Wombats to just 27% shooting from three-point range.

Jon Schlaver led the UW-Fox attack with 13 points.  First year player Riley Van Asten sparked the Cyclones off the bench with a season high 12 points on 5/8 shooting.  Van Asten also recorded 2 assists, 2 steals, and grabbed 3 rebounds.

UW-Fox moves to 15-4 overall, 6-2 in the WCC-East.  They return to action on Saturday February 1st when they host UW-Marathon in a non-conference match up.  Tip-off is set for 3pm.

UW-Fox Suffers Road Loss

The Cyclones struggled on offensive for most of the game in dropping their second WCC-East game of the season.  UW-Fox shot just 37% for the game and only 27% from three-point range.  

Along with their offensive problems the Cyclones were not much better on defense.  UW-Fox allowed the host Cougars to shoot 46% overall and 47% from three-point range for the game.  UW-Waukesha also pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.

Traivione Hills did most of the damage for UW-Waukesha scoring 18 of his 23 points in the second half, and grabbing 15 rebounds for the game.  Four different times in the second half the Cyclones would pull within a basket only to have Hills score and push the Cougar lead back out to 3 or 4.  The Cyclones cut the lead to 52-54 midway through the second half on a Trevor Krizenesky three-point field goal, but came up empty on their next four offensive possessions.

Krizenesky paced the Cyclones with 15 points, while Cameron Schaefer added 14.  Chase Hawley also had 9 points for UW-Fox.  New Cougar Andrew Reichl was perfect from three-point range (3/3) in adding 13 points for UW-Waukesha.

UW-Fox falls to 14-4 overall, 5-2 in the WCC-East.  They return to action on Wednesday January 29th when they host UW-Sheboygan at 7pm.

UW-Marinette at UW-Fox Postponed

The UW-Fox home game against UW-Marinette, scheduled for 7:30pm tonight, has been postponed.  No make up date has yet been scheduled.

Cyclones Run Past UW-Richland

UW-Fox raced out to a 43-17 halftime lead on their way to the victory.  The Cyclones had nine players score in the opening half led by Cameron Schaefer’s 13 points.  

The Cyclones shot just under 50% (31/63) overall for the game and 73% (11/15) from the free-throw line.  They held the visiting Roadrunners to 29% (7/24) shooting from three-point range.  UW-Fox also out rebounded UW-Richland 42-35.

Schaefer led the Cyclones with 15 points.  Trevor Krizenesky had 14 points and 6 assists, while Jon Schlaver had 12 points and Matt Lehner 11 to pace the UW-Fox attack.  Nick Mohl had 7 rebounds for the Cyclones.

UW-Fox runs their overall record to 14-3.  They will host UW-Marinette on January 22nd.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.

Cyclones Down Gogebic

The UW-Fox men's basketball team defeated NJCAA Division II Gogebic Community College 71-62 in a non-conference basketball game at UW-Fox.  Trailing 36-37 at halftime the Cyclone men shored up their defense in the second half to earn the win.  

LaDell Hickman, who buried 5 three-point field goals in the first half, was limited to just 3 free-throws in the second half.  UW-Fox held the Samsons to 29% shooting overall in the second half, only 23% from three-point range, and had a 36-30 advantage rebounding.  Despite struggling shooting the basketball the Cyclones made 27 of their 33 free-throw attempts for the game, 16 of 20 in the second half.  

Trevor Krizenesky led the Cyclones with 24 points.  He hit 11 of 12 free-throws in the game, including 6 straight down the stretch to help seal the win.  Jon Schlaver and Chase Hawley were also in double figures with 15 and 11 points respectively.  Marcus Jensen also came off the bench to add 8 points to the UW-Fox cause.  Cameron Schaefer and Schlaver led the Cyclones on the glass with 7 rebounds each.

With the win the UW-Fox men run their record to 13-3 overall.  They will host UW-Richland in a non-conference contest on Sunday January 19th at 3pm.

UW-Fox Earns Road Win

UW-Fox connected on 12 of their 25 three-point field goal attempts (48%) and shot almost 51% overall for the game in defeating UW-Barron.  The Cyclones defense also held the host Chargers to just 34% field goal shooting for the game and only 30% shooting on their three-point field goals.

The Cyclones outshot UW-Barron in the opening half, but only led 36-33 at the break.  The Chargers made 8 first half free-throws compared to zero for the Cyclones to help keep pace.  

UW-Fox opened the second half with a 13-2 run.  Cameron Schaefer capped off the run with a three point basket with 15:27 remaining.  UW-Barron did cut the Cyclone lead to 9 points with just under 8 minutes left, but the Cyclones quickly pushed the lead back to 13 on back to back baskets by Jon Schlaver.

Trevor Krizenesky scored 20 points, while Schlaver finished with 14, and Matt Lehner 12 to lead UW-Fox.  Schaefer and Nate Tegrootenhuis chipped in with 9 and 8 points respectively for the Cyclones.  Krizenesky and Schlaver also grabbed 8 rebounds each.

UW-Fox moves to 12-3 overall.  They will play Gogebic Community College on Saturday January 11th as part of the Fox Valley Technical College basketball classic.  Tip-off is set for 3pm.
