(Menasha) The UW-Fox men's basketball team advanced to the WCC Tournament semi-finals with an 83-53 win over UW-Marinette on Wednesday night. They will play UW-Barron on Saturday February 23 at 8pm. That game will be played in Wausau, WI. UW-Marathon is hosting the tournaments final four teams.
The Cyclones got off to a fast start against the Buccaneers thanks in part to their efficiency on offense. They made 18 of their 33 first half field goal attempts, 5 of 13 from three-point range. Jon Braeger scored 14 points, and Jordan Kaufman 11 points, in the opening half for UW-Fox.
In the second half UW-Fox pushed the lead to 58-27 thanks to strong defensive play from Kaufman, Trevor Krizenesky, and Trevor Smith. UW-Marinette cut into the lead midway through the second half, but 4 points from Jon Schlaver helped UW-Fox comfortably push the lead back up over 20 points.
Braeger led UW-Fox with 24 points. Krizenesky and Kaufman chipped in with 17 and 13 points respectively for the Cyclones. Jon Schalver led UW-Fox with 9 rebounds. The Cyclones overall record now stands at 21-3.
