UW-Fox Men Win Season Opener

The UW-Fox men’s basketball team began defending their 2011 WCC title with a hard fought 54-47 road victory over UW-Sheboygan.  Korey Jagiello recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the UW-Fox men, who got points from 10 different players.
Key to the Cyclones victory was their defense, which limited the Wombats to 32% shooting for the game and only 13% from the 3-point line.  The combination of Juac Majok, Casey Kelder, and Tanner Hackl held defending WCC player of the year Tim Schwoerer to just 2 points on two free-throws for the game!  Korey Jagiello, Adam Kaminski, and Tanner Hackl all drew charges for the Cyclone defense.
Chris Searl returned to the UW-Fox line-up after missing last season.  His 3-point basket late in the game, and leadership throughout, were critical to the Cyclones first win.  Fellow West grad Casey Kelder netted 8 points.  The UW-Fox men return to the road this Saturday for a 3pm match up at UW-Richland.
UW-Sheboygan held a tremendous pre-game ceremony that honored former professor, athletic director, and Coach Jack Snyder (1969-2001).  Former colleagues and players shared emotional words of praise for the late educator.  The basketball court at UW-Sheboygan was officially renamed ‘Jack Snyder Court’ as Coach Snyder’s widow and three children were on hand to do the honorary unveiling, which culminated the event.  Our hats go off to the UW-Sheboygan athletic department, foundation office, and campus community for a very well attended, successful, and touching event.
